Canada Ocean Racing \u2013 Team Be Water Positive today announces its 2025 The Ocean Race Europe crew led by Canadian skipper Scott Shawyer<\/strong> and featuring five other accomplished names in offshore sailing.  <\/p>\r\n

Scott Shawyer, a Canadian entrepreneur, adventurer and engineer, will skipper Team Be Water Positive in the fully crewed offshore challenge this summer. <\/p>\r\n

Shawyer became the first Canadian to complete the New York Vend\u00e9e in June 2024, following on from his 2023 season where he claimed line honours and set a new double-handed monohull record in the RORC Transatlantic Race. <\/p>\r\n

Now, as he takes the helm of the team\u2019s new foiling IMOCA in this fully crewed format for The Ocean Race Europe, Shawyer is embracing the steep learning curve ahead. <\/p>\r\n

\u201cThis is a huge step up for me,\u201d said Shawyer. \u201cThis boat is fast, technical and demanding, and I\u2019m learning more every day from the experienced sailors around me. I\u2019m here to get as much out of this race as I can. I\u2019ve battled sea sickness, I\u2019ve made mistakes, and I\u2019ve had frustrating days, but every mile on this boat gets me closer to my goal of mastering the foiling IMOCA boat and ultimately competing in the 2028 Vend\u00e9e Globe.\u201d <\/p>\r\n

The Ocean Race Europe marks a key milestone in the team\u2019s development, who are using this opportunity to accelerate their training, deepen their understanding of the boat, and push their performance under pressure.  <\/p>\r\n

Arguably, Canada Ocean Racing – Team Be Water Positive arrives as the underdog: a new team, on a new boat. <\/p>\r\n

\u201cWe know we\u2019re going up against some of the most professional and experienced outfits in offshore racing,\u201d added Shawyer. \u201cBut I’m excited about how we are coming together as a team. This is a group of highly experienced sailors full of talent and determination, and we\u2019re learning fast.\u201d <\/p>\r\n

Joining him for The Ocean Race Europe are: <\/p>\r\n

Pip Hare (GBR) <\/strong>\u2013 A two-time Vend\u00e9e Globe entrant, Hare became a household name after completing the 2020\u201321 race. She brings deep solo sailing experience, technical knowledge, and outstanding resilience, having survived a mid-race dismasting in last year\u2019s Vend\u00e9e Globe and safely navigated 800nm to land under jury rig. <\/p>\r\n

Chris Pratt (FRA)<\/strong> \u2013 One of France\u2019s most respected offshore sailors, Pratt secured podium positions in the 2011, 2013, 2019 and 2021 Transat Jacques Vabre and was part of Team Malizia during the 2023 Ocean Race. Known for his tactical sharpness and calmness under pressure, he adds a significant competitive edge to the team. <\/p>\r\n

S\u00e9bastien Marsset (FRA)<\/strong> \u2013 A highly experienced solo, double-handed and crew sailor, Marsset completed the 2024\u201325 Vend\u00e9e Globe and brings strong offshore and inshore experience, including the Volvo Ocean Race, Jules Verne, and World Match Racing Tour. He learnt his trade as part of Franck Cammas\u2019 Groupama team (winners of 2011-12 Volvo Ocean Race), plus Yann Guichard and Charlie Enright\u2019s teams. <\/p>\r\n

Brian Thompson (GBR)<\/strong> \u2013 Thompson is one of the world\u2019s most accomplished offshore sailors, with multiple circumnavigations and roughly 40 official world sailing speed records to his name, including the Jules Verne Trophy (a record that stood for five years). <\/p>\r\n

Georgia Schofield (NZL)<\/strong> – a passionate visual storyteller and lifelong sailor, Schofield has worked as a photographer and videographer for 14 years. Her experience includes roles with Starboard, New Zealand Ocean Racing (Volvo 65 campaign), and most recently as On Board Reporter for Team Holcim-PRB during the 2022\u201323 Ocean Race.<\/p>\r\n

\u201cThis team represents everything we stand for at Canada Ocean Racing – Team Be Water Positive,\u201d said Shawyer. \u201cWorld-class skill, relentless determination, and the courage to push boundaries. I\u2019m honoured to race alongside them and to take this next bold step on our journey.\u201d <\/p>\r\n

The Ocean Race Europe will start on August 10, 2025, in Kiel, Germany, and finish in Montenegro after stops in major European ports including Portsmouth, Porto, Cartagena, Nice and Genova.  <\/p>\r\n

Sp\u00e9cialiste de la navigation en solitaire, elle allie expertise technique et une r\u00e9silience hors norme, comme en t\u00e9moigne son retour \u00e0 terre sous gr\u00e9ement de fortune apr\u00e8s un d\u00e9m\u00e2tage en course sur le dernier Vend\u00e9e Globe. <\/p>\r\n

Chris Pratt (FRA)<\/strong> \u2013 L\u2019un des marins fran\u00e7ais les plus respect\u00e9s en course au large. Pratt est mont\u00e9 sur le podium lors de la Transat Jacques Vabre 2011, 2013, 2019 et 2021. Ancien membre de Team Malizia lors de The Ocean Race 2023. R\u00e9put\u00e9 pour sa finesse tactique et son calme en situation de pression, il apporte un atout comp\u00e9titif majeur \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9quipe. <\/p>\r\n

S\u00e9bastien Marsset (FRA)<\/strong> \u2013  Navigateur aguerri en solitaire, en double et en \u00e9quipage, Marsset a boucl\u00e9 le Vend\u00e9e Globe 2024\u201325. Il dispose d\u2019une exp\u00e9rience solide aussi bien en course au large qu\u2019en r\u00e9gate c\u00f4ti\u00e8re, avec des participations \u00e0 la Volvo Ocean Race, au Troph\u00e9e Jules Verne et au World Match Racing Tour. Il a aff\u00fbt\u00e9 ses comp\u00e9tences au sein de l\u2019\u00e9curie Groupama de Franck Cammas (victorieuse de la Volvo Ocean Race 2011\u201312), ainsi qu\u2019avec les \u00e9quipes de Yann Guichard et Charlie Enright. <\/p>\r\n

Elle a notamment travaill\u00e9 pour Starboard, New Zealand Ocean Racing (campagne Volvo 65) et, plus r\u00e9cemment, en tant que reporter \u00e0 bord pour Team Holcim-PRB lors de The Ocean Race 2022-23. <\/p>\r\n
