Solid<\/span> start to 2023 – <\/span>Canada Ocean Racing finish the <\/span>Royal Ocean Racing Club Transatlantic<\/span> Race<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h1>\n

[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_column_text]Racing double handed, skippers Scott Shawyer and Alan Roberts finish the first race in Canada Ocean Racing history.  Finishing with a time of<\/span> 9 days 12 hours 57 minutes 53 seconds<\/span> places the duo as 2<\/span>nd<\/span> in IRC super zero & Monohull Line honours.  The 3000-mile race took the pair from Lanzarote, Canary Islands<\/span>,<\/span> to Grenada, Caribbean. At 02:00 local time the pair crossed the line outside of Camper & Nicholsons Port Louis Marina, Grenada. Despite crossing in the dark of night<\/span>, <\/span> <\/span>the spirits of the team were not dampened as cheers could be heard from support vessels as well as from onboard the Canadian IMOCA 60.<\/span><\/p>\n

The completion of this iconic race is a major milestone in the journey of this newly formed team. Although the team have three Transatlantic crossing<\/span>s<\/span> under their belts<\/span>,<\/span> none have been in a racing mode.  Therefore, to finish as 2<\/span>nd<\/span> monohull across the line is a great result for the team and gets their racing history off to a strong start.<\/span><\/p>\n

After crossing the line<\/span>,<\/span> skipper and team founder Scott Shawyer said \u201cTo finish my first transatlantic race feels like a great achievement. It would not have been possible without the support from the entire Canada Ocean Racing team and from my wife and family. <\/span>\u201cScott and Alan have done an excellent job pushing the boat and making some tough decisions.<\/span> I have been impressed with Scott\u2019s <\/span>persistence<\/span> and determination to get the <\/span>maximum<\/span> from the boat<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span><\/span> and <\/span>himself<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>all the way to the end\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/em> <\/span><\/em>

<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”16116″ img_size=”large” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center” qode_css_animation=”” css=”.vc_custom_1674049065131{padding-top: 40px !important;padding-bottom: 40px !important;}”][vc_column_text]The race was <\/span>a <\/span>fairly typical<\/span> transatlantic race in terms of the <\/span>weather,<\/span> but this <\/span>did not<\/span> mean there w<\/span>ere<\/span> not complex decisions to be made during the <\/span>crossing<\/span>. <\/span><\/span> <\/span>

<\/span>\u201cThroughout the race Alan and I were assessing the positions of our competitors and looking at how they were doing. Jasi and Black Pearl, both with A-list crews of Ocean Race winners and Americas Cup sailors, provided a great benchmark to make sure we were on the pace. To finish in front of those teams feels very satisfying and reassures us that we are on a good path.<\/em>\u201d <\/span>said<\/span> Scott Shawyer, <\/span>Skipper,<\/span> and <\/span>Fo<\/span>under <\/span>of Canada Ocean Racing<\/span>.<\/span><\/span> <\/span>

<\/span>The team will now<\/span> begin the process of making<\/span> their<\/span> boat<\/span> \u2018<\/span>EMIRA<\/span>\u2019<\/span> race ready again<\/span>.<\/span> Coupled with <\/span>a<\/span>nalysing<\/span> the data from this crossing to make performance gains ahead of a busy year of racing<\/span> on the IMOCA circuit.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
