Canada Ocean Racing poised to start the first race <\/span>in the team’s history. <\/span><\/span>

<\/span>The<\/span> team will race<\/span> the <\/span>3000-mile<\/span> transatlantic race double-handed, joining<\/span><\/span> Canadian<\/span> Scott Shawyer <\/span>is <\/span>British sailor<\/span> Alan Roberts<\/span>. <\/span>The pair will<\/span> cross the monohull start line off<\/span> <\/span>Lanzarote on Sunday the 8<\/span> January<\/span> a<\/span>s the race starts at<\/span> 0<\/span>9<\/span>:<\/span>10<\/span> EST (<\/span>1<\/span>4<\/span>:<\/span>10<\/span> GMT<\/span>)<\/span>. <\/span>The first leg of the course<\/span> will see the duo<\/span> weave <\/span>through the Canary Islands<\/span>,<\/span> <\/span>down the coast of <\/span>Lanzarote to a turning <\/span>mark before<\/span> turning right and leaving the island of Fuerteventura to port<\/span> and<\/span> they will then<\/span> <\/span>begin to<\/span> <\/span>cross<\/span> the Atlantic<\/span>. <\/span>The weather predicted for the race<\/span> show<\/span>s<\/span> established trade winds and<\/span> <\/span>is<\/span> set to make the <\/span>sprint<\/span> <\/span>to the finish line in <\/span>Grenada <\/span>downwind<\/span> and <\/span>quick<\/span>,<\/span> with<\/span> c<\/span>urrent routings <\/span>set to<\/span> see <\/span>the first <\/span>monohulls finishing within <\/span>8<\/span> days<\/span> just a few hours short of the course record. <\/span><\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”16061″ img_size=”large” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center” qode_css_animation=”” css=”.vc_custom_1673089880661{padding-top: 40px !important;padding-bottom: 40px !important;}”][vc_column_text]Skipper and team founder, Scott Shawyer, had the following to say ahead of the start. \u201cThe first race for us here at Canada Ocean Racing is a big milestone in our journey. Taking on the Royal Ocean Racing Club Transatlantic Race gives us a great starting benchmark. This will be my longest double handed race ever. It feels like it has been a long time coming the boat is ready I\u2019m focused and ready for the job in hand.\u201d<\/em><\/span> <\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cFor this race we have Alan Roberts and I onboard as co-skippers. Alan is a great sailor and brings a wealth of experience with him. We had the chance to do some offshore training together and we get on very well, which I think is important during these double handed races. For the race we will also be joined by onboard reporter Richard Mardens, who will be sending back pictures and video to bring you all along on our journey.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n

During the race Scott and Alan will be sending back daily videos and messages on social media to bring fans as close to the action as possible.
